Malpractice/Liability Insurance for Self-Employed RPNs For RPNs who have an employer the primary malpractice/liability insurance coverage is provided through the employing agency. Those who are self-employed must secure primary insurance coverage through independent agents. Pursuant to a policy of the CRPNM Board of Directors; RPNs who are self-employed are required to hold a minimum of $2,000,000 professional malpractice/liability coverage. The CRPNM requires that all RPNs who are self-employed provide a copy of the certificate of professional liability insurance on an annual basis. This may be sent with your annual registration renewal documents or annually whenever the insurance term is renewed. You will find a copy the Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Canada (RPNC) Guidelines for Registered Psychiatric Nurses in Independent Practice by clicking the link to the right. This document was approved by the CRPNM Board of Director in October 2008 and replaces the former CRPNM Independent Practice Guidelines. If you are exploring the possibility of Independent Practice we strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with this document and that you contact us should you have any questions about its contents or if you wish to obtain a bound copy. |
